Newberry Group Campground
Newberry Group Campground is on the south shore of 1,531-acre Paulina Lake, part of the Newberry National Volcanic Monument, south of Bend. The 5-mile-diameter Newberry Caldera encircles both Paulina Lake and its neighbor, East Lake. Motorized and non-motorized boats are permitted on the lake, however there is a 10 MPH speed limit. Anglers fish the lake for rainbow trout, brown trout and Kokanee salmon. A hiking trail around the lake connects to other trails in the area.
Four historic log cabins are located within the group area, but are not part of the campground. The cabins were built between 1934 and 1938 by the Bend chapter of the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows. The cabins, which stood empty for years, were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983 and are now in the process of being restored.
Newberry Group Campground is composed of 3 group tent sites. A 110-volt outlet is located at each picnic table. Site A is back among the trees away from the lake. It can accommodate up to 35 people and 6 vehicles. Sites B and C are along the lake shore and can each accommodate up to 50 people and 12 vehicles. Reservations that include a Friday or Saturday night must be for at least 2 nights; holiday weekend reservations that include a Friday or Saturday night require a 3-night stay.
