Green Ridge Lookout
Green Ridge Lookout overlooks the Metolius River valley north of Sisters. To the north stands Mount Jefferson (not quite as close as shown above). Guests at the lookout enjoy views of a dense evergreen forest spreading around them along with distant snow-capped peaks. The rental lookout is available for up to 4 occupants from early May through June and then again from mid-September to mid- November. At other times during the fire season the lookout is staffed with Forest Service fire lookout volunteers.
Lookout Features
The single-room lookout cabin contains a futon, table and 2 chairs, and a propane wall heater. Kitchen facilities include a propane refrigerator, a 3-burner propane stove with oven and an overhead light, along with basic cooking and eating utensils. There is no water, so visitors need to bring their own water supply for drinking, cooking and cleaning. A vault toilet outhouse is located nearby below.
Access to the 2-story lookout structure from the parking area is across a short boardwalk (with railings) to a 20 x 20 feet wooden deck (also with railings). From there, a single-story flight of stairs leads up to the catwalk around the lookout cabin.
What Guests Need to Bring
Guests need to bring their own water for drinking, cooking, and cleaning. They also must supply for own bedding or sleeping bags, sleeping pads, flashlights, toilet paper, towels, cookware (pots and pans), and garbage bags. Guests must clean the cabin upon departure and take everything, including garbage and food.
