Tahkenitch Campground is across the highway from expansive Tahkenitch Lake, 7½ miles north of Reedsport. For those preferring a campground next to Tahkenitch Lake, nearby Tahkenitch Landing Campground is an option, but it has no piped water. Visitors to Tahkenitch Lake enjoy good fishing for bass, perch, and Coho salmon from shore or boat. Wildlife in the area includes Roosevelt elk and bald eagles. The Tahkenitch Dunes Trail leads through the dunes to the beach.

Tahkenitch Campground has 34 campsites spread among mature Douglas fir. Seventeen of the sites are designated for tents only; the remaining 9 sites can accommodate RVs, trailers, and tents. Many campsites are well secluded from one another by foliage. A 2-night minimum stay is required for reservations on weekends and 3 nights on holiday weekends.
