Wahtum Lake Campground is in the Mt. Hood National Forest just east of the Mark O. Hatfield Wilderness.

Beautiful Wahtum Lake has rewarding fishing for rainbow trout. Hikers can explore local trails such as the Eagle Creek Trail, Rainy Wahtum Trail, and the Pacific Crest Trail. The 2017 Eagle Creek Fire may have impacted some of these trails, so check with rangers before setting out.

Wahtum Lake Campground has 5 tents-only campsites. A short trail and steps lead down to the lake from the campground. There is no drinking water in the campground.

General Camping Information

Opening and closing dates of campgrounds are only estimates, usually dependent on weather conditions. Not all campsites can accommodate trailers or RVs of all lengths. Check carefully on the website when you make your reservation to be sure your vehicle will fit your campsite.

In order to prevent the spread of invasive insects, firewood from outside the area is not permitted.

  • Hike to 100-foot Tamanawas Falls. Park at the Tamanawas Falls Trailhead.
  • Visit Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Area for summer fun such as scenic chair lift rides, music, events, and hiking.
  • Spend a day or more at beautiful Trillium Lake with boating, swimming, and fishing.
  • Drive up to Timberline, a famous ski resort on the slopes of Mt. Hood. Timberline. Take a look at historic Timberline Lodge (1937). Enjoy the bike park. Play in summer snow. Ride the Magic Mile Chairlift, discover amazing mountain biking trails, and hike on the Pacific Crest Trail.

Key Wahtum Lake Campground Regulations

  1. Fires are only permitted in designated fire receptacles and must be attended. Fires must be extinguished upon departure.
  2. Pets must be kept on leash and attended at all times.
  3. Quiet Hours extend from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
  4. Prevent the spread of invasive pests by obtaining firewood locally.
