Oak Fork Campground sits on the southeastern shore of beautiful, 1,500-acre Timothy Lake. Oak Fork is one of 7 popular campgrounds around the lake operated jointly by Portland General Electric and the Forest Service.

Things to Do at Oak Fork Campground

Timothy Lake has a reputation for its good fishing for Kokanee, eastern brook trout, and rainbow trout. The lake is one of the best crawdad (crayfish) spots in the area. Motorized boats are permitted with a 10 MPH speed limit. Non-motorized boats such as sailboat, kayaks, and canoes are often seen on the lake. The 12-mile Timothy Lake Trail circling the lake is popular with mountain bikers and hikers. Campers enjoy wildlife viewing, photography, and stargazing.

Camping Amenities at Oak Fork Campground

Oak Fork Campground has 44 campsites. Thirty-six of the sites can accommodate RVs, trailers, and tents. Another 8 sites are walk-in tent campsites, especially popular with tent campers. Good shade is found throughout the campground. Six of the sites are pull-throughs. Most sites may be reserved ahead of arrival date, while some sites are kept as first-come, first-served sites. Six sleeping cabins are also available.

Boating and Fishing at Timothey Lake

Boating is popular at Timothy Lake both for fishing and for enjoying scenic tours. Motorized boats are limited to 10 MPH. Many visitors launch kayaks, sailboat, canoes, and standup paddleboards. Launch ramps are found at North Arm, Hoodview, Pine Point (main launch ramp), and Oak Fork. ($10 fee).

Fishing at Timothy Lake is mainly focused on rainbow, kokanee, and brook trout. Rainbows are stocked at the lake in spring and early summer. Various lures are successful at Timothy Lake, along with the every-popular PowerBaits. Fishing is especially good from the dam or boats. Fly fisherman like the North Arm.

Attractions and Activities

  • Hike, mountain bike, or horseback ride on the Timothy Lake Trail which circles the lake, offering 12 miles of fairly level terrain and many nice views.
  • Hike on the nearby Pacific Crest Trail.
  • Fish for trout in Timothy Lake from shore or boat.
  • Enjoy a picnic at scenic Pine Point Day Use Area on Timothy Lake's west shore.
  • Make the short trip to Little Crater Lake. A barrier-free 800-foot long trail leads to a viewing platform.
  • Visit the nearby Clackamas Lake Historic Ranger District, a Forest Service facility built in the early 1900s.
  • Rent a boat at the North Fork Reservoir's Get&Go Promontory Marina. They offer pontoon boats, fishing boats, row boats, kayaks, and jet skis.
  • Fish for rainbow trout in North Fork Reservoir. Children 17 and younger can fish in the park's Small Fry Lake.
  • Go on a whitewater rafting adventure on the Clackamas River with Blue Sky Rafting.
  • Head over to the Fish Creek Trailhead for some adventurous hiking.

Key Oak Fork Campground Regulations

  1. Generator use is permitted from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Due to customer feedback, we ask that campers refrain from using open-frame, construction-style generators, as they create excessive noise and may violate our peace and quiet rules. Generators are PROHIBITED after 8 PM and before 8 AM including to power medical devices or other equipment.
  2. Pets, RVs, and trailers are not permitted at cabin sites.
  3. Boats are limited to 10 MPH on the lake.
  4. Quiet Hours extend from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
  5. Prevent the spread of invasive pests by obtaining firewood locally.
  6. Fires are only permitted in designated fire receptacles and must be attended. Fires must be extinguished upon departure.
