Box Canyon Guard Station
Box Canyon Guard Station sits near the West Cascades Scenic Byway in the Willamette National Forest, south of Cougar Reservoir (shown above) and northwest of a half dozen popular Cascade Lakes. The area around the cabin features glacial lakes with great fishing, alpine meadows, nearby waterfalls, and a mature evergreen forest. Built in 1933, the cabin served as a home to forest guards watching for wildfires. Now it is a Forest Service rental cabin for up to 4 people.
Cabin Features
The 16 x 24-foot, 2-room cabin comes with 2 twin beds with mattresses, a sofa bed, desk, table and chairs, wood stove, and cleaning supplies. Outside is a 45-foot diameter horse corral, an outhouse, fire ring, and picnic table. Electricity, firewood and potable water are not provided.
What Guests Need to Bring
Guests need to bring their own water for drinking, cooking, and cleaning. They also must supply for own bedding or sleeping bags, propane camp stove, cookware, matches, flashlights and battery-operated lanterns, toilet paper, and garbage bags. If firewood is needed for the wood stove, obtain it locally to avoid bringing outside pests into the forest. Guests must clean the cabin upon departure and take everything, including garbage and food.
